Carreg Arthur (Arthur’s Rock)
Carreg Arthur is the name given to a hefty volcanic boulder estimated to be about 450 million years old that stands in a scenic area of North Wales to the south of Llanrug. It is thought that the rock was moved from Fachwen on the northern shore of Llyn Padarn to its current position, by the glacier that travelled through the Llanberis pass, since it stirred millions of rocks on its journey about 11,000 years ago. There is a legend connected with King Arthur, as to how the stone got to its current location. Apparently, King Arthur was annoyed with the stone that was stuck in his shoe, so he removed it and threw it away. The stone landed and rolled to its current position, which is why it is now known as Carreg Arthur.
