The following question was raised on our Face Book group. Any ideas anyone?

Does anyone have information on the cryptid that supposedly caused grief many years ago in Belmullet, County Mayo, Ireland? I read about it not too long ago..and can’t find the article! It was some kind of amphibian-like animal that came ashore and was very difficult for the locals to kill.

Lake Monster.  In 1962 a creature was hooked by a man and his son whilst out fishing.  Described as having "short thick legs with small ears and a white pointed horn on the snout. It was dark grey in colour, and covered with bristles or short hair, like a pig."  It was said to be the size of a cow and aggressive.
