The following legend is taken from ‘Myths Of The Cherokee’ by James Mooney (Nineteenth Annual Report of the Bureau of American Ethnology 1897-98, Part I.) ’The spot where Valley river joins Hiwassee, at Murphy, in North Carolina, is known among the Cherokees as Tlanusi’yï, "The Leech place," and this is the story they tell of it:

The eternally mysterious woodlands of Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, England are known throughout the world as an entry point for bizarre and unearthly, paranormal phenomena. From werewolf sightings and spectral encounters, to documented UFO crashes and spooky urban legends, this supernatural portal area experiences more inexplicable activity than you even dare imagine.
Add to that the eerie atmosphere of dense woodland at night and it is enough to make the hairs on your neck stand on end.
But, that is what greeted two men who were out on a shooting trip in an East Yorkshire wood.
Jennifer Bell published the following story entitled ‘North Yorkshire big cat fears after sheep is savaged’ in The York Press on 1st December 2010.
A BIG cat is feared to be on the prowl in North Yorkshire after a sheep was savaged and killed.
In 2006 there was a tiger scare in North Yorkshire around Tadcaster. The following article appeared on the BBC News Website [23 June 2006] entitled ‘Police alert over ‘tiger’ reports’ and includes details of a sighting on the B1223, also known as Boggart Lane.
The following article by Chris Slack was published in the Daily Mail on 7 November 2011 and was entitles ‘Lion on the line: Passengers are locked on train for two hours after sighting of big cat… in YORKSHIRE’

According to an article by W Gregor in Folklore [A Quarterly Review Of Myth, Tradition, Institution & Custom] Vol III (1892) ‘This is a loch in Nairnshire. It was the common belief that a bull lived in it. He was often heard roaring very loudly, particularly during frost. (Told by Mrs. Miller.)’
In September 2007 an unidentified animale tagged the Beast Banwell was seen by Helen Stokes whilst she walked her dog. The following article entitled ‘Back – the Beast of Banwell’ from the Eastern Daily Press website is dated 14 September 2007.
Thankfully reports where big cats have attacked someone are rare, but the following article entitled ‘Big cat chases jogger…is the ‘beast’ of Sydenham back?’ which appeared on the Newshopper website (14 December 2009) gives an account of a very close encounter with one.
