The Highgate Vampire – How It All Began – by David Farrant

LONDON 1969, AND WIDE REPORTS WERE COMING INTO the British Psychic and Occult Society concerning a tall black apparition that had been seen lurking among the tombs of London’s Highgate Cemetery. Most of these reports were from people who claimed to have been confronted by this apparition which invariably took the form of a tall dark figure and petrified people both in, or passing, the cemetery.

Admiral Tryon’s Ghost

Following an eight year search, on 22nd August 2004, Christian Francis of Lebanon Divers found the wreck of HMS Victoria near Tripoli. Standing vertically with her bow and the first 30m of her length buried in the seabed, she was the victim of naval blunder and her sinking in 1893 is directly linked to reports of an apparition being witnessed.

Courtiers House

On 7 June 1799, twenty nine year old Mrs Sarah Fletcher committed suicide at Courtiers. She hung herself from the curtain rails of her four-poster bed using a handkerchief and a piece of cord. It is said that she was driven to take her own life after she discovered her husband, who was a Captain in the Royal Navy was arranging a bigamous marriage to a wealthy heiress.

Christ Church, Greyfriars

There is a tradition that during the Victorian times a Night Watchman came across the ghosts of two beautiful ladies in the ancient burial ground of Greyfriars. The two ladies had haunted the site oblivious of each other for centuries, but, once they noticed each other and saw that they were of equal beauty, they got angry and started to fight.

Cranbrook, Rose Bay, Australia

In Phantasms of the Living (vol. II) (Frank Podmore, F W H Myers and Edmund Gurney), there is an account of an apparition experienced and identified by multiple witnesses. It is given in a letter by Mr Charles A. W. Lett, a member of the Military and Royal Naval Club, dated December 3rd, 1885, concerning events that took place twelve years earlier.

Eastbury House

The remains of this once grand house has a reputation of being haunted and associated with a vampire legend. The property is private and you cannot gain access but the story of Eastbury House and its past owners is certainly interesting.

Diplomat Hotel

The empty ruined remains of the Diplomat Hotel on Dominican Hill, Baguio City, Philippines have the reputation of being haunted by headless apparitions amongst other things. The building dates back to the early 20th century and was constructed by the Dominican Order as a seminary, covering 17 hectares.

Tuen Mun Road

Built in 1977 (whilst Britain still governed Hong Kong) the Tuen Mun Road was one of Hong Kongs first high speed roads, linking Tuen Mon and Tsuen Wan. The road apparently has a high volume of accidents and has acquired a reputation of being haunted by the ghosts of those who have died on it.
