The Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee was originally opened in 1893 by Guido and Charles Pfister, and according to the following Stacey Pressman article entitled ‘The haunting of MLB’s A-List’, a number of American baseball players seem to have had some strange experiences there.

The 175 room, 4 star Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel, is thought to be haunted by Lucette, a pretty, young, French governess for the Petre family who lived at Dunkenhalgh Hall when it was still a home.

Growing up around the Lancashire/Yorkshire border I was never too far away from Huddersfield and the Holme Valley so I was particularly keen to read this book in the Haunted series, on Huddersfield and the local area.

Originally a merchants house built in 1741, The Palace had become a registered Inn by 1841, possibly due to the Beerhouse Act of 1830 which enticed private residences to be become public houses.

The Golden Fleece is a Grade II listed building which claims to be York’s most haunted pub. According to their website ‘Possibly the most famous ghost is Geoff Monroe, a Canadian airman who was staying at the pub in room four when he died in 1945, by throwing himself or falling out of one of the windows.
