Dating from the mid 15th century, The New Inn is a Grade I listed building that originally served as hostelry for St Peter’s Abbey. In 1553 Lady Jane Grey (Born 1536 – Died 12 February 1554) was staying here when King Edward VI died. It was here that she was proclaimed Queen, a reign that lasted 9 days.

An apparition is thought to have been experienced in the Christopher Inn, Windsor. The Inn dated from the 16th century and could be found next to the college on Baldwin’s Bridge. This inn was closed on the order of the Head of Eton College in the mid 19th century due to its poor reputation.

The following historical description about The New Crown Inn at 21 Newbridge Hill and their reputed ghost can be found on their website.
The cellar of the Devonshire Arms at 139 Wellsway is thought to have been haunted by a 19th century girl who died on the nearby railway line. Amongst the experiences said to have been reported include a member of staff having their shirt pulled by unseen hands and bolted doors opening.

The Grade II listed George Inn on Mill Lane in Bathampton dates from the mid late 17th century and is thought to be haunted by Viscount John Baptiste Du Barry who was killed on Bathampton Down on18 November 1778 during the last legal duel in Britain. His mortally wounded body is said to have been brought into The George Inn where he finally died.

John Fahey gave the following account of the haunting at The Duckworth Hall in his 30 October 2003 article entitled ‘Spooky tales of a haunted Hyndburn’ which was was published in the Accrington Observer.
The following paragraph from the pubs in Bath website refers to it being haunted. ‘Situated in the bustling centre not 100 metres from the famous baths, the WestGate is a lively meeting place with a twist on the traditional pub.
