Dame Prettyleggs
Tradition has it that Dame Prettylegs, a 19th century witch living in Albourne would hag-ride horses and be able to immobilize teams of animals pulling carts. Hag ridden horses were thought to have been bespelled by witches or fairies who then rode them throughout the night. Evidence of this was usually found in the morning when the returned horse was found exhausted and sweating. She is said to have been married to a smuggler, so perhaps the stories were a cover for the horses being borrowed to move smuggled goods.
