Overnight Investigation Criteria
Does every case of a haunting require an overnight investigation? What criteria if any does a case have to meet before you would be willing to do an overnight stay?

Re: Overnight Investigation Criteria
I don’t think so. It depends on when the reports that produced the case happened. If they were all in daylight, there seems no need for an overnight investigation. The most important thing is to reproduce the conditions of the original observations as closely as possible.
Re: Overnight Investigation Criteria
Doing an overnight investigation means gathering your team and equipment together, some of whom may have to travel some great distance and some equipment may have to be begged borrowed or
stole. It is a logistical exercise and does cost, even if it just in time and travelling expenses, so I try to gauge, based on details gained through interviewing whether the case justifies this type of operation. As Mysteryshopper mentioned above, the time the activity is reported to occur plays a major factor, as does the reported frequency and type of activity, as this will also dictate the how the vigil is approached, how many people are required and the equipment needed if any. Ideally if you are going to do such an exercise you want to plan it so that you have the best chance of success and hence not waste your teams time.
It does seem to me though that some groups might do overnight stays, even when thay are not really required or when nothing has been reported in that location in living memory.

And yet, you just know they will still ‘find’ something! A few odd feelings, a jump on an EMF meter reading, someone reporting ‘feeling pressure’, the noise of footsteps! If you put a team of ‘ghost hunters’ in a location where nothing had EVER been reported, the would still report things.

This actually touches to something I have thinking about for some time now and whether the waters are getting muddier as to say. Whilst gathering information for each gazetteer piece on this site I have been using lots of differant sources from various differant eras. Many of these have been newspaper reports and various books by paranormal researchers, but I am dubious as what our sources in the future may be like and whether we will get some based on the results found by these groups. I also tend to find that there are a lot more ‘pschics’ being involved in investigating over the past few decades and some of their impressions are passed as evidence of hauntings, whereas in the past they tended to be based around witness testimonies.
