A31 Hogs Back, Guildford Bound (1960s)
In a Get Surrey article entitled ‘Ghosts of girls, donkey and bus – paranormal sightings in Surrey’ (31 October 2014), Natasha Solomon mentions the following encounter from the 1960s on the Hog’s Back stretch of the A31. ‘A driver spotted a female figure with long hair, wearing a white dress, standing by the roadside. The witness stopped to see if she was lost or needed a lift, but she had vanished.’
The A31 did not become dual carriage way until the 1970’s, so this encounter would have been on the older road, which follows the East West carriageway Guildford to Farnham.
