Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre
Officially opened by HRH Prince Andrew on 28th June 1996, the new and renamed Birmingham and Midland Eye Centre on the City Hospital site, replaced the old Birmingham & Midland Eye Hospital, which had been on Church Street since 1884. According to Mark Gould in his article entitled ‘Ghosts of sisters past’ [The Guardian on 22 December 2004], ‘During the building of the nearby Birmingham Eye Centre in 1996, the site was monitored by CCTV, which triggered alarm bells when a ghostly grey figure was spotted. Security guards went to investigate, but found no one there.’
