Caisteal na Nighinn Ruaidhe
The 15th century (though possibly 13th century) Caisteal na Nighinn Ruaidhe or ‘Castle of the Red-Haired Maiden’ was the reputed seat of the MacFiachar family, having been built by Mungan MacFiachar, but it was certainly a stronghold of the Campbells later on. It was perfectly positioned on the islet of Innis Luana to guard the route to Loch Awe via Loch Avich. Now nothing more than a ruin, it was supposedly named so, according to legend, because a servant girl with red hair was thrown to her death from the battlements by her master, because she had betrayed him and his plot to murder the builders of the castle. Her apparition was reputedly seen haunting the building.
