Crooked House, Himley
The Crooked House, as the name suggests, has suffered from mining subsidence which creates some weird effects in the old part of the pub. Marbles appear to roll uphill on the window ledges but this is nothing paranormal, more a mix of subsidence and optical illusion but entertaining none the less.
The pub is home to at least two ghosts. The first is believed to be a past landlord, a short gentleman in his 60s or 70s, who is seen to enter the old bar and then simply disappear before ordering a drink. Another apparition is known locally as Polly. She haunts the area around the old fireplace dressed as a parlour maid. She may date back to the time the building was a farmhouse before it became a pub.
The fields behind the pub are also subject to paranormal activity in the form of a group of children playing together. Little notice would be taken of them except for the fact that their clothes date back to a much earlier time.
