Frock Coated Small Figure
According to ‘Some West Sussex Superstitions Lingering in 1868’ by Mrs Latham, ‘A ghost, “not three feet in height, and dressed in a round frock and brown gaiters,” has been seen repeatedly by the keepers of Captain Barttelot [now Sir Walter Barttelot, M.P.] in the wood about Hilliers; one of the men saw it standing by a stile, and attempted to catch hold of it, but his hand passed through the figure!’
