Greencoat Boy, Westminster
The Greencoat Boy public house can be found on Greencoat Place (formerly Coburg Row). The pub is on the site of the old St Margaret’s Hospital and Green Coat School, after which it was probably named. The old prison Tothill Fields Bridewell (Westminster Bridewell) was located beside St Margaret’s Hospital and was on that site between 1618 and 1834.
I have come across a reference that the Greencoat Boy is haunted but as yet have not found any details concerning any experiences there. However, it is one of a number of locations used by the founders of ASSAP (the Association for the Scientific Study of Anomalous Phenomena) to hold their meetings during the early 1980s, so it has its place in the history of paranoraml investigation.
Re: Greencoat Boy, Westminster
The pub unfortunately hit the headlines in early 2010 when a member of staff refused to serve members of the Labour Party’s Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered Rights group. The incident found its way onto Twitter and became one of its most viewed trends.
The Greencoat Boy is run by Punch Taverns and their spokesman said in the press "Punch Taverns seeks to provide welcoming venues to everyone……We are shocked and saddened that a group of our guests did not experience this and would like to apologise……We would however like to stress that this is an isolated incident and is not representative of our commitment to diversity."
