Henrhyd Falls (Sgwd Henrhyd)
The Henrhyd Falls, situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park, is the tallest waterfall in South Wales, dropping approximately ninety feet. It occurs where the Nant Llech, tumbles over the ‘Farewell Rock’. Access is via a steep footpath into the gorge, through deciduous woodland, from the car park at Coelbren off the A4221.
There is a ghost story associated with the waterfall. It is said that in the 1930’s a group of male youths were climbing down the gorge to swim in the pool beneath the falls. Unfortunately one of the boys decided to jump into the pool from a ledge behind the falls, but he hit his head on a rock and was killed. It is alleged that people swimming in the pool can sometimes feel a ghostly hand grab at their ankles when they try to climb out.
