King’s Arms, Thetford
The Haunted Heritage trail leaflet for Thetford refers to a haunting in the old King’s Arms public house, stating that ‘An old tenant still talks of when he lived in this pub as a child. One day he was sitting with his grandmother when a lady dressed in black appeared in the corner of the room. He tapped his grandmother who said, “It’s alright I can see the lady.” She asked the ghost, “What can I do for you my dear?” and the lady turned to them and replied, “I just wanted to see people enjoying themselves. I’ll go now.” And with that she disappeared’.
However, the piece says that New Look currently occupies the site of the King’s Arms, but I am not sure if that is correct. From what I can figure out, New Look is located at 23-27 Kings Street, while the King’s Arms was at 15 King Street, where the Bakers Oven (formerly Greggs) can be found.
