Manor Arms, Walsall
The Manor Arms was originally a farmhouse until the Anson family who owned it began selling beer to passing boatmen. The canal runs immediately behind the pub and the bargees were a good source of trade. The building is mainly 18th century but parts of it are believed to date back to the 15th and 16th centuries.
According to Andrew Perrins in his book ‘Ghosts and the Folklore Around Barr Beacon’, a former landlady who died after falling down the stairs has been seen in the pub wearing a white dress and a straw hat. Other apparitions reported here include a tall, dark male who walks along the ground floor passage and two children, although there are no details as to who they might be or why they are in the pub.
