Reculver
Reculver is a popular summer holiday resort on the north coat of Kent. It has two key sites of archaeological interest, the remains of a Roman fort and a ruined medieval church.
During the last century on stormy nights the whimpering of young children could be heard coming from the ruined chuch and Roman fort. When the site was excavated in 1966 the skeletons of young babies where found under the foundations of the Roman barrack block. It could be surmised that they where some type of grisly sacrifice to consecrate the building which was built between 200 and 250AD.
It is interesting to note that Barnes Wallis tested his famous Bouncing Bomb on the Reculver coastline. The bomb was successfully used by the Lancaster Bombers of 617 Squadron during the Dambusters Raid in World War II. The Dambusters are also linked to Ladybower Reservoir , where they trained for the mission.
Re: Reculver
The church towers of Reculver are said to habour sinister forces, the remains perhaps of dark ritualistic activities. Eerie cries are heard in the area and people have reported seeing hooded figures among the ruins.
