The Dun Cow, Shrewsbury
This Inn was built by Roger de Montgomery in around 1085, making it one of the oldest in Britain. Reputedly haunted by a monk.
In 1980 Mrs Hayes, the landlords wife, awoke to see a hooded monk in her bedroom, bent over the cot of her infant daughter. This habit was described as having dots of bright colour on it. The monk was seen by the daughter two years later and she screamed as she awoke to find him there. The ghostly Brother was also seen by Mr Hayes and, apparently, some visitors have seen shadowy figures passing through walls there. The pub is close to Shrewsbury’s 11th Century Benedictine Abbey.
