The Manor Castle, Sheffield
This pub sits in the grounds of the now ruined Manor Castle (or Manor Lodge) in Sheffield and is haunted by the apparition of a figure. When encountered by Jack Wright, the new Landlord he moved his family straight back out after three weeks of being continuously haunted, if not by seeing the figure then by feeling a presence.
The Manor Lodge, in the grounds of which the pub sits, dates from 1516 and was built as an alternative residence for George Talbot, 4th Earl of Shrewsbury. Thomas Wolsey was known to have stayed there for 18 days whilst under arrest and heading to London for trial in 1530. He never made it, dying of natural causes in Leicester Abbey.
Another prisoner of the state known to have spent time here was Mary Queen of Scots, who was passed between Manor Lodge and Sheffield Castle during her 14 year incarceration under the guard of George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury and his wife Bess Hardwick. It has been said that Manor Lodge is reputedly haunted by Mary Queen of Scots but I do not know of any reported sightings.

Apparently, one of the most compelling claims is that she regularly appears in the Turret House of Manor Lodge, which is where she was kept prisoner. Sightings have been reported since the 1930s. On one occasion, the night watchmen heard, several times, the incense burner being moved around on the top floor of the building and, although it was extremely, heavy, investigation revealed that it did actually keep moving.
