The Oakley Arms, Harrold
According to the following article entitled ‘The other spirits found in your local’ which was published in Bedfordshire on Sunday, 23 June 2013. ‘The Oakley Arms in Harrold has been investigated by The Phantom Society, who claim that the pub is haunted by former landlord Dan Orphin, who has been spotted sitting at the bar sipping from a pint and puffing away on his pipe.’
Dating from the 19th century (licensed in 1869), it was known as the Blacksmiths Arms before changing its name in the early 1900’s to The Oakley Arms. George Daniel Orpin was the tenant running the pub from 1919 and he was still there in the mid 1950’s so it is fair to say he is a prominent figure associated with the building. The unofficial name for The Oakley Arms was said to be ‘Dan’s Place’.
