Re: The Red Lion, Avebury
The following appeared on the BBC website on 5 February 2011.
Thatch roof concern in chimney fire at Avebury pub
Firefighters have been tackling a fire at a pub in Avebury, Wiltshire.
Crews were called to the Red Lion at 1030 GMT on Saturday following reports of a chimney fire.
A Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said initially two crews were called to the pub.
"A further eight appliances were called and although the fire is believed to be out, part of the thatched roof is being stripped for further checks," she said.
"Crews are expected to be on site for some time.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation."
