Wemyss Castle
The castle, built by the Wemyss family, is said to be haunted by the ghost of a Green Lady, whose identity is unknown. She appears as a tall slim apparition who glides around the castle, and has been given the nickname ‘Green Jean’. She was seen by Lady Millicent Wemyss, and the story was recorded in the memoirs of her sister, the Countess of Munster. She has been seen on many other occasions (We will be including the full folktale soon).
The castle was visited by Mary Queen of Scots, and it was during her stay that she is supposed to have met Lord Darnley her future husband. The castle was extended during the 19th century.
Directions: The castle can be reached off the A955
