Ye Olde Cross, Alnwick
Ye Olde Cross public house in Alnwick, also known locally as ‘Dirty Bottles’ is a Grade II listed building with a legendary curse. The bottles after which it received its nickname are sealed between two glass windows. A 19th century innkeeper is said to have dropped dead after interfering with the bottles and his widow issued a curse that anybody touching the bottles would likewise die suddenly. They have apparently been untouched since that day.
